Meet the Woman Behind the Chaos
30. Single. Ambitious. Still figuring out the rest.

A Little About Me
My name is Maizey Scarlett. I can honestly say I never saw myself writing a blog about where I am in life, but here I am.
For the most part, I’ll try to keep things clean around here—partly because I don’t want to offend anybody and partly because that’s just how I was raised. No promises that a few choice words won’t slip out when the dating apps inevitably test me, though.
I’m very ambitious when it comes to my career, and I’m constantly chasing the next goal and, eventually, my dream job. Somewhere along the way, though, all of my twenties disappeared. Suddenly, I found myself 30, still single, still a virgin and still chasing that dream.
I was raised in your typical Southern Baptist home by both of my parents. I’m the youngest of my siblings, which means I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to learn from them exactly what NOT to do. Maybe I learned those lessons a little too well.
So now, at the ripe old age of 30, I’m attempting to enter the dating scene.
And if I’m being completely honest, I’m starting to question that whole “there are plenty of fish in the sea” thing.
There don’t seem to be that many fish.
And the ones I’ve interacted with so far seem to be mutated.
So, Why Ambitiously Alone?
I’m starting this blog mainly because I’ve found some of the struggles I’m experiencing to be absolutely comical.
It’s also somewhere for me to get all of these thoughts out of my head and let other people experience this wonderfully chaotic phase of life alongside me.
There are so many expectations placed on us about what our lives are supposed to look like by a certain age. Marriage. Kids. Career. House. The whole package.
Since I’ve basically missed the memo on several of those expectations, I figured I might as well share what it’s actually like to navigate this phase of life when your timeline looks a little different.
A Few Things You Should Know About Me
Yes, I’m 30. I will obviously continue to age, so after I make another trip around the sun, I’ll let you know.
Yes, I’m still a virgin. Some might call me a magical unicorn because apparently that’s pretty rare at this age. At this point, I occasionally think I might as well become a nun.
But…I also enjoy my worldly possessions, so let’s go ahead and rule that out.
I’m not afraid to date. I’ve just spent a lot of my life focused on accomplishing goals, and I haven’t found THE person—or really even A person—I want to accomplish the next set of goals with.
As for where you’ll find me in this big, lovely world, I’m in good ole West Texas. Some might call me country—which, partially, I am—but mostly, I just am who I am.
I love my family, my friends, animals (minus snakes), the outdoors and Jesus.
You won’t find me getting political here. I’m also by no means an expert on dating, relationships or, frankly, life at this point.
I’m just figuring it out as I go.
What You’ll Find Here
The goal is pretty simple: I’m opening up about the absolute crap shoot that is my life sometimes.
Maybe you’ll laugh until you pee your pants. Maybe something will hit a little too close to home. Maybe you’ll cry because a story pulls at your heartstrings. Or maybe you’ll read something and think, “Thank God it’s not just me.”
But the main thing you’ll find here is raw honesty.
Dating. Virginity. Career goals. Independence. Friendships. Weddings. Loneliness. Family expectations. Bad dates. Good days. The occasional existential crisis.
And probably a few stories I will immediately regret putting on the internet.
For those of you who are already happily coupled up, consider this your front-row seat to what the rest of us are dealing with.
For those of you who are single, figuring it out, or wondering why your life looks nothing like the version you imagined…
Pull up a chair. You’re in good company.
Career: progressing.
Love life: buffering.
Welcome to Ambitiously Alone.
